Goni Mia’s Tea Stall

Video Transcript

Bangladesh Open University Gazipur Campus is 30 Kilometers away from Dhaka
A nearby village of the Campus is Kamoleshor
Goni Mia is living in the village
With the south-west wall of the university, Goni Mia has started a tea stall in order to survive
Goni Mia has some regular customers
Most of them are working at Bangladesh Open University
The daily gathering of the customers has brought him success in business
Every day from dawn to dusk, he sells about Tk.500
He earns a profit of Tk.150 at the end of a day
From the income, Goni Mia bears his family
When I was at class eight, my father died
I could not continue my studies
Then I was going through hardship with my six brothers and sisters
Sometimes we didn’t even have food to eat
Once I went to visit my elder sister’s house
There I saw a shop
A boy of my age was running a tea stall. The job inspired me
Coming back home, I planned to start a tea stall
The reason is there is a university beside my home
Many people commute to the university
I needed money to start a shop. “How can I get money?”
I asked my mother. She gave a gold wristlet from her hand
Then, I kept it as a mortgage
I took a loan of Tk.3000 from a local cooperative society
I started the Tea Stall with the money
Now, this Tea Stall is running well
I earn Tk.100-150 each day
I am planning to get back the ornament from the mortgage
Definitely, I shall get it back
I shall get an admission to Bangladesh Open University to continue my study
Goni Mia has fulfilled his dream. If Goni Mia can do, why can’t you?
